MS Acc10.161 comprises an annotated photocopy of a film sketch written by Gertrude Menear to pay tribute to "those pioneers who struggled and endured to make possible the construction and maintenance of the East-West Railway" between Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie. The film sketch describes living conditions and a strike in 1919, and includes a number of humorous anecdotes.

Public school teacher. Gertrude L. Menear was a school teacher with the South Australian Education Department. While based at Cook in 1919, she provided evening instruction for the railway workers employed on the east-west railway.
